[ Home ] [ About Mount St. Mary ]
Mount St. Mary Academy is a Catholic Christian secondary
school for young women, founded in 1851, and sponsored
by the Religious Sisters
of Mercy of the South Central Regional Community and grounded in
their charisms of compassion, mercy, and justice. It
is the oldest educational institution in continuous
operation in the State of Arkansas.
Mount St. Mary Academy welcomes approximately 550 students
in grades 9 through 12. The school draws its students
from the greater Little Rock area, as well as Benton,
England, Roland, Hot Springs, Cabot, Conway and Pine
Bluff. Mount St. Mary admits Catholic and other-than-Catholic
students. Annually, 98 to 100 percent of the graduates
pursue a college education.
Mount St. Mary Academy is fully accredited by the Arkansas
Non-public School Accreditation Association and holds
the longest continuous accreditation with the North
Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges
in the State of Arkansas. In January of 2000, MSM became
authorized as the first school in the state to offer
the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
The school is also a member of the National Catholic
Education Association and the Mercy
Secondary Education Association. Academic Departments
also hold membership in educational professional organizations
such as the National Council of Teachers of English,
the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and
the College Board.
As the only all-girls secondary school in Arkansas,
the Mount St. Mary experience readily validates the
findings by respected researchers that girls at single-sex
schools surpass their co-ed peers in reading, writing
and science. Our environment - with the support of
our new, state-of-the-art math and science building
- provides girls with more opportunities to actively
participate in math and science classes, and to build
a stronger sense of self-worth and leadership.
The 130 graduates of the class of 2008 amassed almost 6,000 volunteer service hours and earned more than $5.4 million in collegiate scholarship offerings.
Mission Statement / Mercy Values

the dynamic mission of Mount St. Mary Academy. The

serve as the benchmarks for a quality education at
Mount St. Mary.
The Mercy Values are:

Mission Statement
Founded in 1851, and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, Mount St. Mary Academy is a premier, all-girls' school dedicated to building a strong moral and intellectual foundation for our students in order to fully prepare them to meet the challenges of the future as women of wisdom, compassion and integrity.
It is the goal of Mount St. Mary Academy to use differences
in faiths, cultures, races, socio-economic levels,
and abilities to form wider communities and to shape
democratic ideals. It is a further goal to nurture
and promote the spiritual, intellectual, emotional,
and physical development of each young woman in an
environment of respect for the individual. This respect
grows out of the recognition that all members of the
school community are of "immeasurable value because
they are children of God" (Statement of Philosophy
1967, 1980).
Location
Mount St. Mary Academy is centrally located on a ten-acre

Alma Mater
We all love St. Mary's,
The best school we know of.
We'll boost her and hail her
To Heaven above.
She's our alma mater.
There's no other like her.
And all through life,
We'll pledge to her
Our loyalty.
St. Mary's so stately
In knowledge she's shining.
We'll always be pining
For her when we're gone.
We'll always remember
In May or September,
From day to day,
In work or play,
Our loyalty.
Good-bye to St. Mary's
The best school we know of.
You've given us friendship
And knowledge and love.
And though we'll be leaving,
We'll always believe in
The things that you've taught
For you've still got
Our loyalty.
(Sung to the tune of "The Bells of St Mary's." Words,
Douglas Furber; music, Emmett Adams, ©1917. Recorded
by Bing Crosby for the 1946 film, "The Bells of St.
Mary's.)
