Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry Program is intended to build a
Christ-centered community of faith at our school. Through
the programs offered, it seeks to nurture the faith
development and spiritual growth of the school community.
It is one aspect of the total and holistic religious
education program offered at Mount St. Mary Academy.
Based on the history and tradition of Mount St. Mary
Academy, campus ministry is rooted in the mission of
the Catholic Church, and nurtured by the charism of
Mercy. Thus, campus ministry seeks to emphasize compassion
to those in need, global awareness, respect for diversity,
and inclusiveness to those of varying religious traditions.
For more information about the campus ministry department,
please contact the campus ministry director, Susan
Phillips, at 501/664-8006, ext. 108.
Liturgy Team
Under the guidance of the director Susan Phillips,
and MSM Chaplain, Monsignor Lawrence Frederick, the
Liturgy Team coordinates and implements all school
Masses and prayer services, as well as Wednesday and
Friday Masses.
They also assist with Father/Daughter Masses and Mother/Daughter
Rosaries that are held once a month. Reconciliation
is available for students during Advent and during
Lent, as well as at their class retreats.

Eucharistic
Ministers
Being a Eucharistic Minister at the Mount is a form
of service to others in Christ. It is a call from the
community of faith that recognizes the gifts of a person
and asks that those gifts be used for others.

at the beginning of first lunch in the chapel and followed
by lunch in the library for those participating. Remaining

Mercy Summer
Corps
Serving others does not stop during the summer months.
For many Mount students, their service experiences
during the school year inspire them to pursue even
more challenging projects during the summer break.
Such projects are offered through the school’s “Mercy
Summer Corps” program. Mercy Summer Corps is
an immersion program through which students spend the
summer at service sites that integrate cultural and
community experiences with Christian values. Service
sites have included the following:
• Las Milpas, TX: ARISE Program - Students foster
a deeper understanding of different cultures in economically
impoverished areas of south Texas by serving local
children through creative, social and educational activities.
• Barling, AR: McAuley Retirement Residence -
An outreach program where students increase their knowledge
of Mercy history, foster a deeper sense of compassion,
service and response to need, and enjoy the hospitality
of and recreation with retired Sisters of Mercy.
• Springfield, MO: The Kitchen, Inc. - Students
participate in a number of volunteer projects, including
working in a homeless shelter, planting and harvesting
gardens, tutoring and teaching computer skills, and
working in a senior center.
• Cincinnati, OH: Peaslee Neighborhood Center
- An outreach program where students help with efforts
to build up an economically impoverished neighborhood,
by cultivating cultural and personal development among
its residents.
The service programs at the Mount challenge students
to look outside themselves, and in the process, develop
a more open mind and empathetic heart for others. Those
they serve become people with faces and names and a
story, and not just a statistic. Some girls even discover
their “calling” through these experiences,
and go on to become teachers, doctors, nurses, counselors
or work for a non-profit organization.
