Fr. Fred was one of eight recipients recognized at the luncheon whose professional and community achievements embody the spirit of the celebration. According to the Museum of Discovery, these leaders have made significant strides in STEAM fields and illuminate the path toward a brighter, more innovative future for Arkansas.
The Museum of Discovery shared the following biography when introducing Fr. Fred as one of this year’s Spark! Stars on its Facebook page: “Monsignor Lawrence ‘Fr. Fred’ Frederick, a North Little Rock native and 1955 graduate of Catholic High School for Boys, has dedicated more than 57 years to inspiring Arkansas students through science education. Before entering the seminary, he worked as an engineer on NASA’s early space programs, an experience that fueled his passion for physics and mathematics. Ordained in 1966, he immediately began teaching at Catholic High, where his unique background brought real-world scientific knowledge into the classroom. Over the decades, Fr. Fred has influenced thousands of students showing how scientific curiosity and critical thinking can shape future careers. In addition to teaching, he has served as assistant pastor, associate pastor, parish administrator, chaplain for the Carmelite Monastery, and hospital chaplain for the VA hospital in Little Rock. Fr. Fred still serves in the capacity as chaplain for the VA, the Carmelite Monastery, Catholic High, and Mount St. Mary Academy.”
Congratulations to Fr. Fred! His wisdom, faith, and love of learning embody the very heart of Mount St. Mary Academy’s mission. We are so thankful to have him on our team!
