Congressman French Hill announced Mia Hunt ’27 as the winner of Arkansas’ Second District 2026 Congressional Art Competition during a reception held at the Historic Arkansas Museum in downtown Little Rock on Saturday, May 9. Her artwork, “Safe Place”, will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year along with the winning pieces from other congressional districts.
Mia’s latest achievement came as no surprise to her art teacher at Mount. “I’ve had Mia in my classes since she was a freshman,” Amber Uptigrove said. “She has always been so talented, but her technical skill and conceptual ideas have grown immensely in AP Studio. I’m so proud of her hard work this year, and I look forward to what she will create and accomplish during her senior year.”
The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored annually by the U.S. House of Representatives in order to recognize and encourage artistic talent among high school students across the country. Since the Artistic Discovery Competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
To enter, students submit entries to their representative’s office and panels of district artists select the winning artwork. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year in the halls of the U.S. Capitol.
